Did you know that Disability is the world’s largest minority population? One in four people have a disability, yet disability and inclusion are often not mentioned in diversity, equity, and inclusion organizational strategies. Restrictions by society as to where people with disabilities may participate in physical activities, social experiences, and life, in general, are often prohibited by a non-inclusive built environment as well as programmatic exclusion.
Rowing leadership can minimize these restrictions by learning about disability culture, building programs that normalize disability, and creating inclusive organizations that provide access to sport opportunities that remove societal barriers and combat ableism – the intentional and unintentional discrimination of people with disabilities.
